The Temple of Torment is an open-world roguelike that, in the words of its developer, could be described as a cross between Diablo, Dungeons & Dragons and ADOM. In addition, some of the genre's unique features, such as permanent death, can be disabled from the options menu.
The controls in The Temple of Torment are much more accessible than that of the classic 'roguelike', since you can use the mouse to carry out almost any action. Of course, you can also use the keyboard if you want or combine keyboard and mouse (the most recommended option). In the same way, although by default you will enjoy a quite nice tileset, you will be able to deactivate it and play it with ASCII aesthetics.
One of the most fun aspects of The Temple of Torment is that, like ADOM or ToME, you will have total freedom to move around the world as you please. Depending on where you go or the locations you enter, you will be able to accept different missions. And of course, every time you start a new game, the geography of the world will change radically.
At the beginning you will be able to create your character by choosing between 15 different classes, and depending on which one you choose, you will be able to access more than a hundred different skills and spells. If you do not want to spend too much time creating your hero, you can also automate this process.
The Temple of Torment is an outstanding open-world roguelike that rubs shoulders with titles of the caliber of ToME or ADOM on its own merits. The default tileset that comes installed by default is also beautiful and charming.
